Here are some ideas from Margaret for us to do during October, which is ADK Month.
SUGGESTED ACTIVITIES FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER IN THE NAME OF ALPHA DELTA KAPPA
PROMOTING OUR OUTSTANDING ORGANIZATION AND PAYING TRIBUTE TO OUR FOUNDERS,
AGNES SHIPMAN, ROBERTSON, MARIE NEAL, MARION SOUTHALL, AND HATTIE POPPINO
During this time of pandemic, our Alpha Delta Kappa month activities may look different than in the past to keep everyone safe and well.
I. FOUNDERS’ DAY
A. Observe Founders’ Day – Honor charter members and/or Silver Sisters
B. Select a “sister chapter” in another area and write a letter for Alpha Delta Kappa Month
C. Celebrate Founders’ Day on state level
II. PROCLAMATIONS
A. Request Governor’s proclamation for Alpha Delta Kappa Month
B. Request Mayor’s proclamation for Alpha Delta Kappa Month
C. Request School Superintendent’s proclamation for Alpha Delta Kappa Month
D. Request City/County Commission’s proclamation for Alpha Delta Kappa Month
III. PUBLICITY
A. Purchase an ad in the high school year book
B. Have an Alpha Delta Kappa rubber stamp of labels made and placed on outgoing mail
IV. COMMUNITY PROJECTS
A. Plant a tree or carry out another environmental project in the name of Alpha Delta Kappa
B. Donate books, games, or gifts to schools or public libraries in the name of Alpha Delta Kappa
C. Make donations to children’s section of a hospital or to a children’s hospital
D. Make donations to other charitable organizations in the name of Alpha Delta Kappa
E. Adopt student teachers or create other support projects for the school/staff to promote public relations for Alpha Delta Kappa
F. Provide masks for individuals or groups
G. If safe, volunteer at local hospitals, libraries, museums, homeless shelters
V. SCHOLARSHIPS
A. Connect with Josefina Senses, our ITE student from Argentina (see attached information)
B. Award a scholarship during Alpha Delta Kappa Month
VI. LEADERS IN EDUCATION HONORED
A. Honor superintendent and/or principals with favors such as candy, fruit, or flowers
B. Award a Certificate of Excellence or plaque to an outstanding educator
C. Honor International, state, or local leaders in education
D. Give assistance to Alpha Delta Kappa members
VII. OTHER ACTIVITIES IN THE NAME OF ALPHA DELTA KAPPA
*Email, call, text or send a card of support and encouragement to someone who is alone, an essential worker, teacher/parent educating children, Veteran or active military, nursing home resident, former Alpha Delta Kappa Sister, etc.
*Become a pen pal with a shut-in or someone in a nursing home
*Provide meals or a ride to someone who needs assisstance
*Share a book with someone
*Grocery shop or pick up groceries for someone who is unable to do so or run other errands
*Sends treats to teachers who are teaching in schools or virtually.
